With this collection, Julia aimed to share her true essence – an unrelenting image that would be purely her. This aim for the essential was further explored and captured by the renowned photographer, Sante D’orazio. His provocative images of Julia embracing the jewelry also symbolize the graceful balance of primeval emotions spurred by the collection’s contrasted design elements.
Didier Dubot by Julia Restoin Roitfeld is grounded in classic, minimalist jewelry architecture and melds traditional elegance with forceful sharp and beaming silhouettes for an enticing duality that evokes caution of the seemingly innocent. This is a testament to versatile adult sophistication of the contemporary woman, a true reflection of Julia herself. To rejuvenate traditional elements, angles are more acute and most lines end in piercing points. Even the simplest details elicit a subtle sense of danger – the prongs, which encase diamonds and other precious stones, have been purposefully elongated and finished with a dark patina that echoes the mystery of aged classical jewelry. This slight detail also serves to guide the eye, focusing it on the stone for a more dramatic statement. The collection’s vernacular is a symbiotic ensemble of the delicate and the jagged, which converges in a series of daring chokers as well as stackable rings and bracelets.
Exploring further and reflecting a more lighthearted side, the collection also features a very limited number of standout pieces that follow a different and more playful design direction utilizing floral motifs. Resolutely feminine, these slender pieces feature decorative moldings with undulating lines that punctuate lush, oversized poppy flowers, which are hand-carved out of glass and accented by black diamonds and rubies. Here, the spirited play on proportion creates for a striking display with fingertip rings, earcuff and a headband.
