VAK Fine Jewels
Vishal Kothari’s singular vision for his fine jewelry collection, VAK, creatively pushes the boundaries of Indian jewelry craftsmanship and design. A seemingly effortless combination of daring design with a strong sculptural aesthetic and contemporary edge defines each VAK jewel.
Sinuous shapes, soft lines and unexpected compositions give an understated wear ability and femininity to each VAK creation. Visually striking, VAK jewels have a distinctive edginess while reinterpreting motifs from nature and architecture, from the lotus flower to climbing vines, to the intricacy of Mughal design.
Only 120 one-of-a-kind works are created a year for the high jewelry collection, each a seamless canvas of floating gemstones, skillfully set with minimal metal to emphasize their natural beauty and boldness. A technical innovator with a mastery of metallurgy and artisanal craftsmanship, Kothari creates new possibilities in working with portrait-cut diamonds along with colored gemstones.
This artisanal sensibility is woven into Vishal’s background. Born into the third generation of a family of jewelers in Mumbai, Vishal honed his eye and craft from an early age in the family atelier. Vishal now creates his fine VAK jewelry collection from his private atelier in Mumbai, adjacent to VAK’s intimate boutique at the Royal Opera House.
Vishal sits on the Board of the Peabody Essex Museum. Collected by a discerning clientele, VAK retails at Sotheby’s, Moda, Latest Revival and select galleries in Europe, the United States and the Middle East. VAK jewels have been included at major auctions at Sotheby’s and Phillips and have been exhibited at design fairs including PAD London, Ataya Abu Dhabi, and DJWE Doha, among others.
